The Future Dynamic of C-ute – Vox.
CK tries to figure out if there’s any significance to the new Airi-centric take on C-ute, and what it could mean for the others – especially Maimi. Maybe the folks at S1 and Moodyz should be knocking on her door?

C-ute – “SHOCK!” PV Released « Hello!SayuNii.
I like the idea of C-ute filming their PVs in UFA’s garage – especially if cars were trying to run them down. And again, disappointment is expressed at the Supermonkeying of the non-Suzuki members of the unit.

SHG notes that the next C-ute single features Airi primarily in the vocals and speculates on why that might be the case. If it’s a case of making Airi the Amuro to the remaining girls’ Supermonkeys, it’ll be interesting to see if fans will accept such a shift.

Wotaku Now! » My thoughts on C-ute’s Alo Hello! (part 2).
Drunken man-about-town Shirow continues to point out all the highlights of this wonderful release, and even winds up pining for Hawaii. Hey, I miss Oahu, too. Rock-Za, Femme Nu, Suzie’s… How come you never see those landmarks in an Alo-Hello?

Wotaku Now! » My thoughts on C-ute’s Alo Hello! (part 1).
Koharu may be on the way out, but crazed behavior can still be found in H!P. Shirow does a very nice screencap review of the DVD, and apparently Chisato’s quite the excitable little bitch, isn’t she? It’s like someone put some cocaine in her Cheerios – or this being Hawaii, ice in her spam musubi. Anyway, I’m looking forward to Part 2, where I’m sure she picks up a couple of jarheads at Zanzibar and wakes up the next day at the lobby of the Outrigger, her clothes now inside-out.
Morningtime Has C-ute Alo-Hello Eyecandy

Yes There Will Be Picspam – C-ute Alo-Hello subbed « Morningtime.
I always enjoy watching Alo-Hello DVDs set on Oahu, mostly because it’s fun recognizing specific places that are familiar to me. (For instance, Niigaki Risa went grocery shopping at the same place my wife and I often went to.) So while there’s all this half-naked idol eyecandy to ogle, a part of me is looking behind and around them for landmarks and storefronts and figuring out where they are in relation to Diamondhead… Really, I need to get my priorities in order.

What is °C-ute Playing? | yonasu.com.
Yonasu has a question quickly answered in the comments section and again, I can’t help but bask in how hawt Maimai is becoming. The Steve Irwin cosplay in the last two pics isn’t as impressive on C-ute, though.

Morningtime Watches Nakki Solo DVD In Its Entirety

Aishiteru Aishiteru Nakajima Saki Solo Camera « Morningtime.
Hey, I’ve tried sitting through various solo DVDs from H!P and have never been able to last all the way through. At some point the need to stare at this one slice of idol hotness (usually Momoko) gives way to a weird sense of… I don’t know, sheepish self-awareness? The notion that you care so much for this person and they don’t even know you exist and even if they did all they care about is your money? Certainly, it puts Carson McCullers’ old axiom to the test.
So I have to give props to somebody who’s done so and lived to tell the tale.

Idol Chatter: Idol Replacement Therapy: A Series in Three Parts..
The series concludes with solid assessments on whether or not C-ute and Morning Musume should add new members after their recent / upcoming graduations. The answers aren’t exactly surprising, but the way it builds up from the previous installments of the series helps a great deal.

C-ute in Bikinis « Morningtime.

Also, loved the rant about UK weather.

Konno Asami: Maiha Ishimura y Megumi Murakami.
Maiha looks the same, but Megukami looks like Shibasaki Kou now! It’s kind of freaky and sexy. But what’s freakier – and not at all sexy – is how the photos of Megu are so obviously from a stalker, which is what drove her away from the idol world in the first place…
Morningtime On The New C-ute Line-Up

C-ute are growing even as they get smaller « Morningtime.
The graduation of Umeda is noted by sharing some pretty nice bikini pics of the remaining five members in their Alo-Hello DVD. (Oh, and there’s some pictures of Erika with the others later on.) While it’s good to see Chisato’s got a nice rack, Maimai continues to be the tantalizing possibility of them all.

BKI Looks At C-ute Over The Years
October 25, 2009 | Ray Mescallado | Tags: C-ute, Hello! Project, Umeda Erika | Comments (0)
That Was Then, This Is Now @ Berryz Kobo International.
Umeda’s graduation prompts Zush to do another of his great H!P Kids history eyecandy type posts. Like him, I still miss Megukami and still love her more than any other member of C-ute. (Though I think most of my lust for Megukami has now been moved on to lookalike Yamada Ryo of Hey! Say! Jump. I can’t be picky…)
That said, watching Maimai blossom into an idol of sheer hawtness is a pretty magnificent thing. Cue Maurice Chevalier…!

Morningtime Has C-ute Pillow Fight

C-ute Pillow Fight! « Morningtime.
First, these screencaps make me miss Kanna all over again. (I really hope she’s enjoying her freedom and getting daily doses of Vitamin F.) Second, somebody always loses their top during a pillow fight, so why aren’t we seeing that happen here? Third, how come Korenaga Miki wasn’t allowed to join in the sleepover portion of the DVD? I wouldn’t mind seeing her work some Ongaku magic fingers on one of the girls.

Does anyone have a full tally of which idols are down with illness? I’m actually surprised that nobody in Morning Musume’s caught it yet, all things considered…
Morningtime Compares Sales Of Current H!P Acts
October 18, 2009 | Ray Mescallado | Tags: Berryz Kobo, Buono!, C-ute, Hello! Project, Morning Musume | Comments (0)
Morning Musume, Berryz, C-ute, Mano & Buono sales comparisons « Morningtime.
Longtime Momusu fans have seen such comparison charts of sales numbers, and the general conventional wisdom pans out as expected. The only notable twist: Buono! is the only H!P Kids unit to surpass an MM single sales-wise.
It’s clear that the focus here is strictly current H!P acts – in which case, why not just cover MM in the past five years? But if you are going to look at MM overall, why not bring in the other big acts from H!P’s peak years – particularly Matsuura Aya and the subgroups Minimoni, Petit Moni, and Tanpopo? I think the bigger picture that emerges would actually reflect poorly on H!P as they stand now… but without the numbers, that’s just a hunch.
(And if you really wanna embarrass H!P, then contrast sales of H!P acts over five, ten years with similarly long-lived Johnny’s acts. Arashi versus MM would be particularly illuminating.)

Mano Erina @ Number 1 / C-ute Alo-Hello cover « Morningtime.
Congratulations to H!P’s last remaining soloist on hitting number one, even if it’s only for one day.
Meanwhile, the C-ute Alo-Hello features the post-Umeda 5-nin line-up. Was Erika left out because of her imminent departure? And is there any chance of Maimai cameltoe appearing on the DVD?

Idol Chatter Continues Idol Replacement Series

Idol Chatter: Idol Replacement Therapy: A Series in Three Parts..
The last paragraph raises the true dilemma Morning Musume now faces – branding the current line-up as individuals versus returning to the old cycle of the “revolving door idol group”. Ending as it does, though, the consequences and ramifications are left unexplored, and I’m hoping this ground is covered in the last installment.
Idol Chatter On Replacing Idols

Idol Chatter: Idol Replacement Therapy: A Series in Three Parts..
I’m not sure what’s meant by the “therapy” in the title, but this is a nicely examined look at some basic attitudes on the group dynamics of idols and how adding new members could influence it. The building blocks presented here are useful, as is the admission that the three main approaches are simplistic. (For starters, isn’t there a kind of “street gang” mentality within some generations? How does that effect the overall group?) This is yet another series I look forward to reading more of.
MorningBerryz Delighted By New C-ute Single

This may be C-ute’s♥ best single♪♪~ yet! ^ ^ – Vox.
MB is so pleased with the latest release from C-ute that she even compares its quality to something Johnny’s Entertainment – she even names Arashi – would do! That’s quite a compliment, all things considered.
Personally, I saw Bounceback-era SweetS in the video and heard post-Bounceback SweetS in the music; I guess that first half can be taken as a compliment, at least.
C-ute Say Goodbye To Erika In Kindai

C-ute interview in Kindai magazine – Hello!Online .
The pictures of the girls are really nice, and their farewell wishes to Erika are pretty much what you expect. There’s no “You stole my secret boyfriend while I was at a photobook shoot, bitch! I hope you wind up an AV idol for Attackers!” But you know at least one of them must be thinking that, amirite?

Are we sure it’s a peace sign they’re all giving? Could there be something else going on? “Hey Maasa, how many fans cheer for you during the concerts” “Hey, Chinami, how do you position your legs when Akanishi Jin drops by?” “Yurina, what’s your favorite dystopian comic book by Alan Moore?”
H!P and Former H!P Wannabe Top Singles Chart

Charts: AI’s first #1 – Tokyograph.
Koda Kumi is at the top of the singles chart this week with the theme for the Kamui movie. Longtime H!P fans will recall she auditioned for third gen, way back in the idol stone age. In second place this week was C-ute, though I’m sure Kuu-chin would be willing to trade places with any of them just so that she could be that much closer to Morning Musume.
The Koha Roundtable
September 22, 2009 | Ray Mescallado, murr, wendy and Vee | Tags: Berryz Kobo, C-ute, Hello! Project, Kusumi Koharu, Morning Musume | Comments (3)
The news of Kusumi Koharu’s graduation from Morning Musume raised quite a stir in our corner of the J-blogosphere, as coverage here and at Intl Wota can attest. Always open to experiment, I decided to run an ad hoc roundtable to discuss what happened to Koha and what it means for Hello! Project’s future. DH’s regular contributor Vee was of course ready to join in; bloggers / wotachatters Murr and Wendy also threw their hats in the ring. (Unfortunately, illness kept Wendy from doing the last round of questions.)
The roundtable started Sunday night and a major new development – Tsunku making explicit that he ordered Koha’s graduation – occurred while e-mails were flying.

Talking About My (Re)Generation « The J-Pex: An H!P/J-Pop Music Blog.
Pex waxes philosophical on the nature of change and idols, then goes on to consider how Morning Musume fans were better prepared for their recent changes than C-ute fans. That said, C-ute fans had the trauma of Murakami Megumi leaving way back when, and the scars of that hasn’t healed for some of us. Ohhhh, Megukami…

H!P really are a bunch of frisky hands, as Isilie proves in her top-notch picspam of some of the most memorable pictorial evidence of girl-love within the ranks. From Miki to Kanna to Miki to Yossie to Miki AGAIN as if there were any doubt, this post is very, very relevant. And in the comments, Greay provides a video that sums it all up as a nice postscript.

Gush~~Gush~ Momusu Dancing prt 3
I love this series Isilie has done analyzing and capping different dances, new and old, from Morning Musume. The entire series is littered with magnificent one-liners, and some strong wota opinions (I’ll agree on Mari being the one true “last Love Machine” speaker, and contest anyone who doesn’t). She even gives us bonuses from Berryz and C-ute! Thank you, Isilie, and keep on’ dancin’.
