Koda Kumi Goes Bi For Her Tenth Anniversary

December 12, 2009 | Ray Mescallado | Tags: , | Comments (0)

Kumi Koda celebrates 10 years with combined new and best album – Tokyograph.

She’s releasing a 2 CD set – one is her latest Best collection, the other is a new songs album. Why she can’t make it two separate releases and really milk the anniversary for what it’s worth, I dunno – I guess this is supposed to feel more special or at least more unusual.

That said, am I the only one disapppointed that she’s not including a homemade sex tape as a bonus DVD?

51st Japan Record Awards announced – Tokyograph.

I’d personally like to see G Dragon’s ass kicked by a bunch of schoolgirls – but alas, they’re only dueling it out for Best New Artist. That said, there’s interesting choices in both the Best Song Category – Exile, Girl Next Door, Ikimono-Gakari, among others – as well as Best Album – Hirahara Ayaka, Greeeen, Superfly. And what’s this about a Special Award for AKB48 and Aki-P?

2009 Kohaku Uta Gassen lineup announced – Tokyograph Forums.

The big shocker here is the absence of Morning Musume. But Perfume and AKB48 will be performing for the Red Team, as will Ikimono-gakari, Koda Kumi, Otsuka Ai, Kimura Kaela, and the magnificent Wada Akiko. For the white team there’s Arashi, NYC Boys, TOKIO, SMAP, and even some non-JE acts like Jero, Exile, and DBSK.

DBSK? Now that’s going to be interesting.

Ethan is taken pleasantly by surprise with the orchestra chosen to spice up the ballad but finds “Physical thing” samey in its approach to Kuu-chin style sexiness.

Pink Wota Shares Thoughts On 60th Kouhaku Line-Up

Pink Wota » [News] 60th Kouhaku Set to be Most Awesome EVER..

Vee is delighted that three major girl groups appear this time – Morning Musume, Perfume, and AKB48 – though she also notes a great deal of other Red Team goodness including the return of Amuro Namie. I’m not a fan of Superfly but I think she could bring the house down with the right song. Johnny’s is well represented by Arashi, TOKIO, and of course SMAP. Maybe SMAP can make the effort and follow the other two to the Johnny’s Countdown this time.

The one thing that strikes me is the dog that didn’t bark: I’m recognizing so many names on both team lists that it seems enka is getting very short shrift this time around. Coincidence? A deliberate appeal to younger viewers? Where’s Wada Akiko, at least?

Still, this IS very impressive. While I’m still anticipating Johnny’s Countdown more, there should be a great deal to enjoy on Kouhaku this time around.

Koda Kumi – Alive / Physical thing « Beyond the Sea ~ The TASTY Edition ♥.

Like a hot water enema on a chilly winter morning, Lex was dreading yet another turgid ballad from Kuu-chin but found this to be a surprisingly enjoyable experience instead. So the lesson is: bend over and take it, you just may like it. Which, when you think about it, could be a Koda Kumi song.

H!P and Former H!P Wannabe Top Singles Chart

September 24, 2009 | Ray Mescallado | Tags: , , , | Comments (0)

Charts: AI’s first #1 – Tokyograph.

Koda Kumi is at the top of the singles chart this week with the theme for the Kamui movie. Longtime H!P fans will recall she auditioned for third gen, way back in the idol stone age. In second place this week was C-ute, though I’m sure Kuu-chin would be willing to trade places with any of them just so that she could be that much closer to Morning Musume.

Koda Kumi’s “Physical Thing” PV

I freakin’ love Anna’s style of writing, and she makes me laugh endlessly from the first sentence of her review of Koda Kumi’s new single and its c/w PV. There is even a David Sedaris quote included. Kuu’s back to sexual acts with booze bottles! Beware!
